A place to reconnect with yourself and what matters to you.

Some things aren't meant to be carried alone

Difficult experiences leave their mark, whether through trauma, fertility struggles, a challenging health diagnosis, or a major shift in your life's direction.

Maybe a difficult past experience still shapes how safe you feel in your body and in your relationships today. Perhaps you're navigating the isolating grief of infertility or difficult pregnancy/postpartum struggles that no one prepared you for. You might be adjusting to a chronic illness or life-altering diagnosis, uncertain about what comes next. Or you’re navigating the grief and burnout of caregiving for someone you love and are noticing your own needs have faded into the background.

Therapy allows a space for you to navigate these challenges alongside a well-trained therapist who can provide space, guidance, practical tools, and education to help you regain a sense of control over your life. You deserve to feel safe, confident, and fulfilled.

This might sound familiar…

  • You’ve been living in survival mode instead of feeling present

  • You feel shame, guilt, or self-blame, even when part of you knows it wasn’t your fault

  • You feel "broken" or fundamentally changed, yet others don’t seem to understand

  • You are experiencing grief that feels invisible or misunderstood

  • You feel numb, disconnected, or feel like you’re just going through the motions

  • You have a constant worry that another crisis is around the corner

  • You feel guilty resting because there's always something more you "should" be doing

  • You feel like you're carrying too much, often without enough support or understanding

  • You remember a clear “before” and “after”

Meet Liz Spitzer, PhD

Trauma Therapist in Lexington, MA

Virtual Therapy available throughout Massachusetts

Hi, I'm Dr. Liz Spitzer, a licensed clinical psychologist in Massachusetts. I help adults navigating trauma, anxiety, chronic illness, infertility, and caregiving stress find relief, develop skills for managing stress and discomfort, and create a more balanced, meaningful life.

I understand how exhausting it can feel when trauma memories steal your attention away, when anxiety won't let you sleep, when a diagnosis reshapes how you see the world, or when caring for others leaves nothing left for yourself. Life can feel heavy, and you don't have to carry it alone.

In our work together, I draw on years of clinical training, research, and experience to offer evidence-based therapy tailored to you and where you are. My role is to truly listen, help you make sense of what you're going through, and find a path forward that feels both manageable and hopeful. In therapy with me, you’ll learn skills to build real, lasting change. You'll build momentum toward a life that feels grounded and aligned, so you can show up for what matters without losing yourself in the process.

Whether you're struggling with trauma, chronic illness, infertility, caregiver stress, or just feeling stuck and disconnected, know that real change is possible.

How The Therapy Process Works

Step 1

Brief, Complimentary Consultation

If you’re unsure about therapy, that’s okay. Many people reach out before they feel ready or certain — and scheduling a consultation call doesn’t commit you to anything. During the free 15-minute phone call, we will have a simple conversation about what’s been going on and what you’re hoping for. You’ll have space to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide whether it feels like a good fit. I am deeply committed to providing exceptional care, and if I’m not the right fit, I’m happy to offer referrals.

Step 2

Intake and Collaborative Treatment Planning

In our initial sessions, I’ll take the time to understand your history, challenges, and goals. Together, we’ll develop a personalized, thoughtful plan tailored to your unique needs and goals. During this time, I will offer options for treatment and provide education about different paths forward. These conversations should always feel collaborative and clear.

Step 3

Therapy for Meaningful Change

Engage in therapy rooted in evidence-based approaches tailored to your needs. Together, we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you, building insight, resilience, gaining education and practical skills to navigate challenges with greater confidence and clarity. While timelines vary, most clients reach their goals in about 3 to 6 months of working with me. Our pace and focus will always align with what you are hoping to gain from therapy, your growth, and what feels sustainable for you.
